“Creating an original Bond game is a monumental undertaking and I truly believe that IO Interactive, working closely with our creative partners at EON and MGM, can deliver something extremely special for our players and communities,” IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak said in a prepared statement. Of course, the most notable entry is 1997's GoldenEye 007 for Nintendo 64, a landmark entry for the first-person shooter genre. The last Bond game to receive positive reviews was 2003's James Bond 007: Everything or Nothing, released on the Game Boy Advance, GameCube, PS2, and Xbox. The game was largely panned, save for its multiplayer bits. Project 007 will be the first Bond game since 2012's 007 Legends, released to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the first Bond movie, Dr. The Bond game is being developed with IO Interactive's proprietary Glacier game engine technology that has also been used on the three latest Hitman games it has worked on. Both locations are recruiting talent from around the world and you can apply for roles at IO Interactive's careers website. Project 007 doesn't have a release window, but IO Interactive did say that it is currently in “active development” at IO Interactive's studios in Copenhagen, Denmark and Malmö, Sweden. It will be made for “modern systems and platforms,” that means Project 007 should be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S/X at the least. IO Interactive - as developer and publisher - will work with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Bond films producer EON Productions, and video game financier Delphi on Project 007. Hitman developer IO Interactive has announced that it is working on Project 007 (working title) that will feature the very first “wholly original” Bond origin story, with players stepping into his shoes to earn their double-O status. Now that IOI’s Hitman 3 has been released, hopefully we’ll hear more news soon.James Bond is coming back to video games. Project 007 is a long-term project that doesn’t even have any confirmed platforms yet, let alone a release date. As Abrak recounts, “o ur story, our background with the Hitman universe and our vision of what Bond is in a game format, went straight to the heart of Barbara Broccoli herself.” Once her permission was granted, it was merely a formality to convince movie company MGM too. While publisher Square Enix was disappointed with the IOI Hitman’s performance, Broccoli was not. Wilson took some doing and was the result of nearly two years of preparation and hard work. Convincing current heads Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Sometimes it’s still a little hard to understand that it’s us to make James Bond.”ĮON Productions is run by the Broccoli family, who own the rights to decide what happens with Britain’s best-known spy. “ It’s very, very special – a boy’s dream. Abrak expects this to increase to more than 400 employees “over the next few years.” The Bond agreement means “an insane amount” to IOI, and they want to make sure they do MGM and EON Productions proud. Between them they currently employ 200 people. This was followed in 2019 by a studio in Malmö, Sweden. Right now there’s the original company studio based in Copenhagen, Denmark. The scope of the project means the studio will have to expand.
